Communion Tips and Direction for LG's

Explain to the group that we want to celebrate Jesus and his death and resurrection by taking Communion. Communion is all about remembering the great love God has for us by sending his son Jesus to die that we might have life.

Read 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 for your scriptural focus on Communion and our Lord’s work for us

Keep it simple...Pass the bread, thank the Lord for it, and eat together. Pass the cup, thank the Lord for it, and drink together.

IDEAS: You may want to involve others by asking them to read the Scripture and lead these prayers. The bread and juice can also be set on a table in the middle of the room and people take Communion after you read the Scripture and pray, or while the group prays silently, sings or listens to a worship song.  Provide a minute for the group to silently confess of any known sin and to get their hearts focused.  Sometimes people can get a little "uptight" or nervous when leading others in communion.  We want to encourage you to relax and just be yourself.  In the New Testament communion was much more informal than how we as Christians typically celebrate it today.  It had more of a "meal and small group" focus to it in the early church - just like our LG's!

Close this time in prayer.
