---Counseling & Support Ministry

Our Vision

Our Counseling & Support Ministry exists to glorify God by teaching GOD’S people the tools needed to: teach others to walk with God; to bring deep restoration to the brokenhearted; to receive and impart God’s intimate counsel; and to battle the spiritual darkness that holds people captive and prevents their complete freedom in Christ. For it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

Specialty Life Groups

Our specialty life groups address Biblical and practical topics covering relevant subjects such as managing finances, parenting, marriage, life skills, spiritual growth, support/recovery groups, etc. To read more or register for a specialty life group, please visit our Specialty Life Group page

Pastoral & Professional

Our church offers pastoral staff and two professional counselors: Florence Nikas and Dusti Stark. Please Contact Us to learn more about this counseling. Visit this link for additional Christian Counselor referrals.

 One to One Lay Counseling

This Ministry provides a Biblical perspective from trained lay-people to support and extend care to those in need. A Lay Counselor is a maturing Christian who walks beside a hurting person. They have received certification through the AACC (and continued training), and have a heart to care for, and provide emotional and spiritual support for those experiencing life’s difficulties. They faithfully meet an hour each week for as long as there is a need in the care receiver’s life.

Financial Peace University

This life-changing class taught by Dave Ramsey and the FPU teaching team on video, and coordinated by Michelle Rutherford at River Valley, will help you achieve your financial goals by showing you how to eliminate debt, save for the future, and give like never before. You will be challenged and motivated to make a plan for your money and change your family tree forever.

Hope Groups for Friends and Family

Has someone you love embraced homosexuality? Is someone you care for struggling with same-sex attraction? Are you confused about how to show love in a situation that challenges your own Christian beliefs? Is it difficult or impossible for you to find people with whom you can share your pain? Learning of your loved one’s homosexual struggle, an embraced gay identity, or gender confusion can feel tremendously overwhelming and personally devastating. As Christians we know that living a life contrary to God’s design will only wound, which makes this all the more painful. The tension of loving your child while also holding to your personal convictions of faith produces both frustration and uncertainty. The Hope Group is a supportive place to process, and to help you understand your family member or friend and how you can navigate your relationship with him or her. If interested please contact Beth at takebackground@gmail.com.

This ministry provides the opportunity for healing of the heart and soul of these survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Our goal is to provide confidential support for men and women on the path towards healing.

Since the first meeting of the early church detailed in the book of Acts, God has instructed believers to use the resources He has given them to help the needy. We fulfill this scriptural mandate by offering prayer, counsel, and temporary financial assistance to individuals and families during a time of need. Examples of the types of help provided include grocery coupons, bus passes, and marriage and financial counseling. For more information call the Lifeline Ministry at 541-476-7761, ext. 106. The Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9am to 2pm.

Who Switched Off My Brain

We’re living in an epidemic of toxic emotions. Research shows that as much as 87% to 95% of mental and physical illnesses are a direct result of toxic thinking—proof that our thoughts affect us physically and emotionally. Learn how to control toxic thoughts and emotions.

The Gift In You

If you have taken Who Switched Off My Brain, you may want to take this class. Dr. Caroline Leaf illustrates the revolutionary link between brain science and God’s purpose for each one of us. This class will help you discover your special gift and identify your truth-value.

Untangling Relationships: A Christian Perspective on Codependency

This 12-week class will help identify and change lifelong patterns of thinking, feeling and acting. Many people find themselves in physically or psychologically abusive relationships. They try hard to please, rescue and serve others, but the harder they try the less peace of mind, intimacy, and joy they receive for their efforts. This study teaches the three-part process: identify, detach, and decide to bring real change to your life. Christ came to set us free from the bondage of sin and death and Untangling Relationships is designed to bring life change through the works of the Holy Spirit.
For more information on any of these, when the classes will be offered, or other counseling needs, contact us.
Before any counseling, you will need to complete an Information Form (.pdf). Print the form, complete it, and bring it with you to your first session.
